Natural Habitat

My recently commissioned work, 'Natural Habitat', is currently showing on the Big Screen in Exchange Square, Manchester. ‘Natural Habitat’ is a new work commissioned by Cornerhouse as part of The Bigger Picture 2005, with the support of Arts Council England, North West. I have been looking at the different groups of people who use the space around Exchange Square and Urbis in Manchester, especially the young people such as goths, moshers, skaters and parkour followers. Struck by the level of movement in the space, I have worked with video footage to create a choreographed animation of the repetitive movements and gestures performed as the inhabitants of the square explore the urban furniture and weave between the shoppers and families passing through the crowd.
