Potential Hits
Chapman Gallery, Salford University, April 9-May 11, 2002
This group exhibition curated by Mike Dawson consisted of a series of certificates of intellectual property displayed within a gallery space. The certificate showed the name of the artist and artwork, and the details of an, as yet, unrealised exhibition. Visitors to 'Potential Hits' were invited to purchase the certificate and the rights to produce the show. If after five years the show has not been realised, the certificate and rights will be returned to the artist, who has a further five years to show the work. If the artist fails to do so, the rights are then passed on to Mike Dawson, who has another five years. For my 'Potential Hit', I put forward the idea for an exhibition of a series of line drawings giving instruction in how to fold your bus ticket, to be positioned in the best place to be appreciated, on a bus. Not just one bus, but every London bus. I stated that this must be documented in some way, giving proof of the extent of the project.
