Residencies present great opportunities to develop your work over a period of time, allowing you space to explore new ideas and techniques. You will often find yourself in a new environment, which can be quite exciting, presenting you with new surroundings to respond to and work with. My recent residency at the Glassbox Gallery set me the challenge of working in a totally visible way, something I am not used to, preferring to work in private. This gave me confidence, as I drew onto the glass, with people looking in from the other side.
